efficiency in data reduction
Inline deduplication eliminates the redundancy of data in the write path before duplicate blocks are written to the disk. In combination with inline compression data reduction ratios of 10-25x or even greater can be reached.
Deduplicated data can be stored onsite for immediate restores and it can also be replicated to a remote location over the WAN. Deduplication and compression does not only reduce the amount of physical storage space, it minimize also the replication bandwidth over the WAN.
data integrity is key
The data integrity is guaranteed per data block by up to 256-bit checksums. This checksum is created on all information (user data AND metadata) of the respective blocks and hierarchically stored into each of the upper metadata blocks. This checksum mechanism is called “Merkle-Tree” (https://blockonomi.com/merkle-tree/), which is also a fundamental component of any blockchain technology.
